A portrait of Emma Mankey Hidem, founder and CEO of Sunnyside Productions

Have stories. Will travel.

Sunnyside Productions is a full-service video production company based in Washington, DC. We specialize in non-fiction, corporate, and virtual reality 360° video. The company was founded in 2015 by Emma Mankey Hidem and we have created content for companies as large as Twitter, Mercedes, and Esteé Lauder. We have produced documentaries that have aired around the world through the US Department of State. We are also in post-production on our first independent feature-length documentary, Blue Ridge Barnum.

About Emma Mankey Hidem

Emma has been making videos since she was an adolescent – her first movie was an action-sci-fi short in which she wrote, directed, shot, edited, choreographed the fight scenes and even acted in (reluctantly).

A native of Minnesota, and having come to DC after 7 years in New York City, she has a combination of Midwestern charm and East Coast toughness that is ideal for producing video – she makes sure her team meets deadlines and creates the best content possible, but she also know how to make clients and interview subjects feel at ease.

In a video production career that spans more than a decade, she has worked with and learned from talented filmmakers such as Academy Award-winner Ross Kauffman (Born Into Brothels) and Emmy-nominated Joe Fab (Paperclips). Emma was a visiting scholar at American University for virtual reality storytelling and was named Filmmaker of the Month for January 2022 by the DC Film Office. The Game Show of Love was listed as one of 12 Brilliant Business Ideas from Women Entrepreneurs. Emma currently serves on the boards of Women in Film & Video and DCXR.

And no, she doesn't have a Minnesotan accent (but she can do a pretty good one on command).
